28 Life Lessons Learned in 28 Years

Though I missed the recent solar eclipse over in North America, I am still feeling it’s a sign of growth and rebirth.  I also see birthdays as a time to begin again as a person with a lot more insight than the year before.
I am by no means an expert at life and still struggle at a lot of these. But I hope that my small understanding of life helps you realize some of your own life lessons, I’d love to hear them!

  1. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated. Put kindness first.
  2.  When something is upsetting to you, think of the 5-5-5 rule. Will it matter in 5 minutes? 5 hours? 5 days, months, years? Often these bumps in the road can be lessened by realizing this won’t be a big deal in the long run.
  3. Accept your past, there’s nothing you can do to change it
  4. Do your best to live in the now. The past is gone, the future isn’t here yet.
  5. It’s ok to ask for help. Pride can be useless.
  6. Don’t cut your own bangs. Let the professionals do it.
  7. Own your “flaws” and find ways to cope for them.
  8. Mental health is just as important as physical health.
  9. You actually have a lot more courage than you realize.
  10. Don’t be afraid to fail, you are learning something.
  11. Always put all of your heart into what you do, because then you can never question “what if?”. There are usually vast rewards from giving it your all as well.
  12. Life always happens when you’re not looking for it.
  13. When writing a to do list, write easy tasks first. When you’re able to cross off the easy thing, you’ll feel more accomplished and ready to dive into bigger tasks.
  14. Give things in life a “no thank you try”: meaning try it once, if it’s not for you then say no thank you.
  15. Learn to laugh at yourself, don’t take life so seriously.
  16. Don’t be afraid to be alone.
  17. If a relationship or friendship doesn’t serve you/ lift you up. It’s ok to let it go.
  18. There is always someone who will get under your skin. Smile and move on (5-5-5 rule).
  19. Take care of your body with exercise and healthy eating, you only get one.
  20. Even if you eat healthy, don’t restrict yourself from culinary experiences. Will you ever have the chance to have it again? If not and you still really want it, use portion control (just eat a bite or only half).
  21. Only you have control of your happiness.
  22. The grass is greener on the other side, only if you don’t water your own lawn.
  23. Learn to be humble.
  24. Show gratitude for what you have. If you’re feeling negative try to think about 3 things you’re thankful for in you’re life.
  25. Procrastination is always a bad idea. Just get it done. You’ll feel better when it’s done.
  26. If you’re feeling down, get outside or exercise. Sun, fresh air, and a little sweat is healing.
  27. Don’t change yourself for other people. Life your life the way you want it to be, not other someone else’s expectation!
  28. And lastly, if you’re making a life change you don’t need to wait until a new month, a new week. You get a fresh start every day. Also take baby steps, Rome wasn’t built in a day 😉
